What I like in cricket is that it is a good balance betn. an individual sport and a team sport. Yes, team strategy matters, but without individual effort the team goes nowhere. 
 
Even with a so-so team, individuals can still shine -- their team may not always win, but the talent will be obvious. Because when you are the batter and you are facing a ball, whether you hit it well doesn't depend on anything else. With baseball you have things like intentional walk, and all the other strategic moves that make it more of a team strategy. 
 
As I found out from http://writepaperforme.org/ American Football is on the other extreme -- so much of team sport that the individuals are just small cogs in the wheel.
